Art on the World Stage: The Exciting Collaboration with Pinpoint Scotland Ltd

Writer: Art of Hearing | Dyon ScheijenArt of Hearing | Dyon Scheijen

Sometimes, something happens that is bigger than you could have ever imagined. An opportunity that fits so perfectly with everything you believe in that it feels like it was always meant to be.

This is one of those moments.

I want to take you on a fantastic journey. A story I’m eager to share. Because it’s about art, science, and the power of an idea. About how one question can turn into something that reaches a global audience.

My project Where Art meets Science will be featured on the cover of ENT & Audiology News - the leading industry magazine, read in 140 countries. And not just once, but six times.

Six covers. Six artworks. Six stories.

The Magic of a Simple Question

It all started with a feeling. Every time I received a new edition of ENT & Audiology News, I was struck by the carefully curated covers. They reminded me of my own artwork. And one day, I thought: why not? Why not reach out and ask if these covers could tell a deeper story, one that blends art and audiology together?

I sent an email to Francesca McCabe, Editorial Coordinator at Pinpoint Scotland Ltd. Just a question. Not knowing if there would be a response.

Dear Ms. McCabe,

Every time I receive an issue of ENT & Audiology News, I am struck by the beautiful covers, which often remind me of my own artwork.

As an artist and audiologist, I combine my expertise in these fields to create acoustically absorbing art - an innovative way to tell a story that raises awareness about both acoustics and hearing.

It would be an honor if, in the coming year, each issue of ENT & Audiology News could feature one of my artworks on the cover.

I sincerely hope you, as the editor, see the unique value in this collaboration. I would be delighted to discuss how we can bring this idea to life.

Warm regards,

Dyon Scheijen

The reaction on this email ended up in my own spam folder.

Thankfully, Francesca reached out to me once again, and this time I saw the message immediately. I responded right away. From that moment on, everything started to fall into place.

An Unexpected Opportunity

Soon after, I received a response from Caroline Elder, Director of Pinpoint Scotland Ltd. Her enthusiasm was contagious.

Dear Dyon,

Thank you for responding so quickly and delighted to hear from you.

We would be looking for a series of six covers to use over a period of a year, all portrait shape which makes it easier to use for a cover for the magazine. Magazines are designed on A4 format.

It would be amazing for each of the covers to tell a story. We would have a very small area with the content page to describe the image and then we could potentially have a page on the website outlining the background to each of the artworks.

I hope that helps to start the ball rolling.

Kind regards,

Caroline

I read her words again, and a wave of excitement washed over me. This wasn’t just a small article or a one-off collaboration. This was a series. Six editions. A whole year. A global stage.

And it got even better.

Traditionally, ENT & Audiology News gives a lot of attention to the covers. Readers keep the magazine, not only for the content but because of the aesthetic appeal of the covers. But now, something unique was about to happen: for the first time, the cover would not only be visually stunning but would also tell a story within the magazine itself.

The Power of a Dream

What started as a thought, a spark of inspiration, became reality. It’s a lesson I keep learning: just ask. Throw that idea into the air.

This is not just a collaboration between me and a well-known magazine. It’s proof that art and science can complement each other. That audiology isn’t just about measuring and analyzing; it’s also about feeling, connecting, and telling stories.

I am incredibly grateful to Caroline Elder and Jessica McCabe. Their enthusiasm, persistence, and openness have made all of this possible.

And as this dream comes true, I keep dreaming. Of exhibiting at international art fairs, of international breakthroughs, of a world where Where Art meets Science inspires people to look differently, to listen differently. To truly hear.

Because hearing is more than just the ears.
